Flower Looms: The Woven Spokes Centre

Begin by making a flower with an oversewn centre and two loops for each petal.

Before sewing the centre, cut the yarn leaving a tail of about 1½ yards or 1½ metres. The actual amount of yarn you need will depend on how thick you yarn is and the size of your loom. The thinner you yarn is, the more you will need for weaving.

After completing your centre your thread will still be attached to your flower.

Thread the yarn under two threads of the petal to the left of your yarn.

You will be putting the yarn under the two threads that are furthest away from you on the petal.

Put the yarn under the same threads again.
You will have created a loop.
Thread the yarn through the loop to form a knot
and pull it tight to secure it.
Thread your yarn under the first two loops of the next petal to the left of where you just made a knot.
Then go back under the threads where you made the knot in the opposite direction.

Continue weaving following the last two steps until your petals are roughly half full.

Thread the yarn under the first two loops of the next petal again

and then once more
to form a loop.
Thread the yarn through the loop to form a knot and pull it tight.

Thread your yarn under the last thread of the petal you have just woven and the first thread of the next petal.

It's important that you put the yarn under only two threads and not all four.

Make a knot around the last two threads of the petal and continue weaving all the way around your flower as you did for the first spoke.
When you have woven all the spokes, thread the yarn under the last thread of the petal you have just woven and the first thread of the very first petal that you wove.
Pass the yarn under the flower to the other side and
pull it through.

Pop your flower off the loom and darn in the ends on the wrong side.

You can work woven spokes on any shaped loom. They look particularly nice with a knotted edge.
