10 Spoke Diamonds on Any Round Flower Loom

Diamond flower loom motifs with multi-color crochet edging

I have taken the instructions for making diamond shapes on the crazy daisy winder from my downloadable vintage instructions “Stole, Shrug, Handbag and Three Different Shapes on the Crazy Daisy Winder” and have expanded them with photos and more detailed instructions.

I made these daisies on a 2 inch diameter daisy loom with dk weight yarn.

Making the longer petals To create a diamond shape on a round loom you need to make two longer petals by winding around two spokes at once. Here is how it’s done.

Anchor your yarn where shown in the photo on the left. I usually hold it in place with my hand while I hold the loom.

Wind across the loom to spoke number 1, across to number two and then back across the loom to number 3.

Large petals wound twice Bring the yarn across to number 4, then wind around the spokes in the same way once more, finishing at spoke 4.
Winding the normal length petals Take your yarn across the loom to spoke number 5, then back across the loom around spoke number 6.

Wind around these spokes one more time, finishing at spoke 6.

Continue winding around the rest of the pokes Take the yarn across the loom to spoke number 7, then back across once more to spoke number 8. Wind around these tow spokes again, finishing at spoke number 8.

Continue winding the remaining spokes in the same way as spokes 7 and 8.

Stitch the centre and pop your flowers off the loom. Stitch the loose ends of your yarns into the back of the centre of your motifs.

Finished diamonds You will now have a daisy with a long petal at the top and bottom. They don’t look very diamond shaped quite yet…
Diamonds with crocheted borders To join your motifs start by crocheting around the first one.

Join your yarn to both strands of one of the long petals with a double crochet (US single crochet), 3 chain, dc in same petal (picot made)*, (3 ch, double crochet in next petal) four times, 3 ch, (dc, 3 ch, dc) in next long petal, (3 ch, double crochet in next petal) four times, 3 ch, join to first double crochet with a slip stitch.

Cut yarn and darn loose ends into the back of the motif.

Three flower loom motifs joined together Take your second motif and work your edging to *

(3 ch, double crochet in next petal) twice, 1 ch, work a slip stitch in 1 loop of the 2nd stitch of the centre 3 ch space on one side of the first block, 1 ch, dc in next petal on 2nd motif, continue working the edging as for the first motif.

Continue joining motifs in a row.

Joining the second row of motifs Attach yarn to another motif with a double crochet in one long petal, 1 ch, slip st in 1 loop of centre stitch of the 3 chain picot on the first motif of the first row, 1 ch, dc in the same petal on your new motif. Continue working the edging all the way round the new motif.
Two full rows of motifs Continue adding motifs to your second row, joining each motif at the bottom as you have just worked, and at the sides as you did in the first row.
Filling in the spaces with more motifs To fill in the openings between rows,

attach yarn to one long petal on another daisy, ch 1, sl st in side joining of 2 motifs in row 1, ch 1, dc back in same long petal, * (ch 1, sl st in next 3 ch sp on next motif, ch 1, dc back in next petal) twice, ch 1, sl st in joining of 2 rows of motifs; ch 1, dc back in next petal, (ch 1, sl st in next 3 ch sp on next motif, ch 1, dc back in next petal) twice, * ch 1, sl st in side joining of 2 motifs, ch 1, dc back in same long petal; repeat from * to *, joining to 1st dc. Fasten off. Fill in each opening in same way. Continue to make and join motifs for desired size.

All open spaces have been filled Continue filling in the spaces.
Different colored centres I neglected to make my samples with different coloured stitching in the centre, but this creates a lovely design within the diamond grid.
