  • What does "ABN: 73 548 786 649" mean, and why is it written at the bottom of every page?

This is my Australian Business Number. As of December 2006 I am required by law to place it on my website.

  • How do I sign up to Knitting-and.com?

Knitting-and.com is a free needlework site. As such, there is nothing to "sign up" for. New content is announced on the Updates blog at http://www.knitting-and.com/updates/index.html

  • Why do you have advertisements at the top of all the pages?

These ads pay for the website's yearly hosting costs, domain name registration, and the purchase of any additional software I might need to make your visit more enjoyable.

The only way that I can afford to pay for the very large free sections of knitting-and.com, and to provide even more free content is to have these banner advertisements showing on each page. I'm sure the small inconvenience of having ads at the top of the pages is a fair trade for so much free content and the continual addition of new content.

  • Why do you have "This file was downloaded from http://www.knitting-and.com/..." on all the pages I want to print?

I've put this notice on all the pages people might print for several reasons.

First, if you print a pattern and ever want to tell someone else where you found it, the address is right there on the page and you won't have to try and remember where it came from!

If people email the page to someone (which I don't allow on my patterns BTW) the recipient will know exactly where the page came from.

If anyone photocopies patterns for friends (which some of the copyright notices allow), the recipient of the pattern will know where to go to find more patterns!
