  • What is a "provisional cast on"?

A provisional cast on is one that lets you pick up stitches from the cast on edge and continue knitting. There are some excellent instructions for one way of doing this on the Page by Page of Maui website at http://www.pagebypage.com/provisional.htm#creating

  • Can I give my guild/club/social group copies of your patterns?

I decide whether to allow this on a case by case basis so please ask.

  • Can I email your patterns to my friends?

In a word, no. It's just as easy to send them a link to the patterns on my website.

Quite simply, I need people to view the patterns on the website in order to keep up my advertising quotient which helps to pay for the site. Without the advertising there will be no website as donations do not cover costs.

Also, quite often when people mail my patterns they strip off all my copyright information. This is not only unfair to me but it is also illegal.

  • I came across the term "turn" in a pattern I am working on. The problem is that I have no idea what that means and can not seem to find a definition anywhere online.

"Turn" means exactly that. Turn your work around and work back in the opposite direction. Usually you'll find it in patterns where you're working back before finishing a row, creating what's known as "short rows"

  • I am knitting the Psychedelic Afghan (small squares) and it is gorgeous. Thank you. But how do I put them together, is there a site about possibilities?

I just sew mine together the same way I would a sweater, using matress stitch. As for design possibilities, play with them! It's fun to grab a few squares (16 is a good number to get the idea of the design) and play with rearranging them in different patterns. If you want to join them as you go you can also do that. A good website to see how it's done is the homepage of the modknit e-mail list at http://perso.wanadoo.fr/toutes.directions/modknit/modknit_lessons.htm
