With the now international availabilty of knitting patterns the names
of certain stitches can sometimes get very confusing. I've been asked
several times the difference between Irish and American
Moss st and here is what I have found: The top stitch in the graphic,
also known as Seed St, is the stitch my English mother and grandmother
always used to call Moss Stitch. The bottom st is the Moss
St that I notice most American patterns use.
Here is how to do them... Abbreviations: P = Purl K = Knit Method: Version 1 Cast on an even number of sts. Row 1: (K1, P1) rep to end Row 2: (P1, K1) rep to end Repeat these 2 rows for length desired. Cast off in moss st. Version 2 Cast on an even number of sts. Rows 1 and 2: (K1, P1) rep to end Rows 3 and 4: (P1, K1) rep to end Repeat these 2 rows for length desired. Cast off in moss st.
