1st Row: Sl 1, k1, *yo, k1, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k1, yo, k1, Rep from * to end of row
2nd and Alternate Rows: Sl 1, Purl to end
3rd Row: Sl 1, k1, * K1, yo, Sl 1, k2tog, psso, yo, k2, Rep from * to end of row
5th Row: Sl 1, k2tog, k1, * yo, k1, yo, k1, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k1, Rep from * to last 4 sts yo, K1, yo, K1, K2tog.
7th Row: Sl 1, k2tog, *yo, k3, yo, Sl 1, k2tog, psso, Rep from * to last 5 sts, yo, k3, yo, k2tog
Purl 8th row, then repeat these eight rows for length required, usually a square. Edge with a knitted lace.
Lace Edging:
Cast on 14.
1st Row: sl 1, k1, (yo, k2tog) twice, k2, yo, k2tog, yo twice, k2tog, k2
2nd Row: k4, p1, k2, p3, k5
3rd Row: sl 1, k1, (yo, k2tog) twice, k2, yo, k2tog, k5
4th Row: k7, p3, k5.
5th Row: sl 1, k1, (yo, k2tog) twice, k2, yo, k2tog, yo twice, k2tog, yo twice, k3.
6th Row: k4, p1, k2 ,p1, k2, p3, k5
7th Row: sl 1, k1 (yo, k2 tog) twice, k2, yo, k2 tog, k8
8th Row: cast off 4, k6, p3, k5.
Rep these 8 rows for length around finished shawl.
Sew lace around edge of shawl, gathering slightly at the corners so the lace lies flat.
