Lady's Entrelac Hat

50gm 8 ply (DK) yarn for ribbing, approximately 100gm various colours for entrelac section of hat.
Sets of 5 dpn's in size 3.25mm and 4mm
Tension:
22sts and 30 rows to 10cm (4 inches) over st st on 4mm needles
Method:
Using 3.25mm needles and chosen colour for ribbing, cast on 120sts and
work 23 rounds K1, P1 rib.
Change to 4mm needles.
Decrease row: (K1, K2tog) to the end of the round.
Change to entrelac colour and work first row of triangles as follows:
*K1, turn, P1, turn
K2, turn, P2, turn
K3, turn, P3, turn
K4, turn, P4, turn
K5, turn, P5, turn
K6, turn, P6, turn
K7, turn, P7, turn
K8, turn, P8, turn
K9, turn, P9, turn
K8, K2tog, do not turn **
Repeat from * to ** 7 times more so that you have a total of 8 little triangles sitting atop your round of ribbing.
Turn work inside out and work next row of diamonds as follows:
***Pick up 9 sts purlways along edge of 1st triangle, turn
K9, turn
P8, p2tog, turn
Repeat last 2 rows until all but one st of the base triangle has been worked, ending with a knit row
P2tog, P6, P2tog. Repeat from *** for the next 7 base triangles
**** With knit side of work facing you pick up 8 sts along side of diamond, turn
P8, turn
K7, K2tog, turn
Repeat last 2 rows until all but one st of the diamond of previous row have been worked, ending with a purl row
K2tog, K5, K2tog
Repeat from **** 7 times more.
Turn work inside out and work next row of squares as follows:
***** Pick up 7 sts purlways along edge of 1st diamond, turn
K7, turn
P6, P2tog, turn
Repeat last 2 rows until all but one st of the diamond of previous row have been worked, ending with a knit row
P2tog, P4, P2tog.
Repeat from ***** 7 times more
+ With knit side of work facing you pick up 6 sts along side of diamond, turn
P6, turn
K5, K2tog, turn
Repeat last 2 rows until all but one st of the diamond of previous row have been worked, ending with a purl row
K2tog, K3, K2tog
Repeat from + 7 times more.
Turn work inside out and work next row of squares as follows:
++ Pick up 5 sts purlways along edge of 1st diamond, turn
K5, turn
P4, p2tog, turn
Repeat last 2 rows until all but one st of the diamond of previous row have been worked, ending with a knit row
P2tog, P2, P2tog.
Repeat from ++ 7 times more
+++ With knit side of work facing you pick up 4 sts along side of diamond, turn

Repeat last 2 rows until all but one st of the diamond of previous row have been worked, ending with a purl row

K2tog around, thread yarn through sts and pull tight. Fasten off.
