Knitted Cushion in Honeycomb Stitch

Vintage honeycomb knit cushion pattern

What a delightful Xmas or birthday present this pretty cushion would make. There are many other uses the same stitch may be put to such as Pram or Cot Covers, Afghans, Footstool, Pouffe or Hassock Covers.

We give directions for working a cushion top about twenty-two inches square. Should a larger (or smaller) article be required add (or subtract) 9 stitches for every 1¼ inches of difference, the pattern being divisible by 9 and 2 over. The original was worked in green and brown, the border and honeycomb being brown, and the background green. If desired it may be carried out in one color for either pram or cot covers, using Sports wool and No. 8 needles

Materials Required for Cushion

2 ozs. dark brown 4 ply
2 ozs. light green 4 ply
1 pair No 9/3.75mm/US 5 needles

Note: Due to the size of the needles used I am assuming that the wool used is similar to today’s 8 ply or dk weight yarn.

Pattern

Using dark wool and cast on 150 stitches.

Work 15 rows Moss stitch as follows:

Row 1: (K1, P1)

Row 2: (P1, K1)

As the number of stitches given is an even number care must be taken that Moss stitches come in alternate positions or you will end up with a k1, p1 rib instead.
