Pyramid Design Pullover

Long sleeved fited pullover with triangular and zigzag design worked in travelling stitches

Materials

14 Skeins (1 oz) Lincoln Mills Triple Twist “Daphne” Wool

2 UK No 8/4mm/US 6 and 4 UK No 9/3.75mm/US 5 double pointed knitting needles.

Measurements

To fit 38 inch chest. Length from shoulder, 22 inches. Sleeve underarm, 22 inches.

Tension

(when pressed) – 7 sts and 8 rows to 1 inch.

Pattern

Back

With No. 9 needles cast on 104 sts and work in ribbing K1, P1, for 26 rows. (3 inches.)

Change to No. 8 needles and begin pattern:

1st Row: Slip 1, P4, (K14, P6) to last 19 sts, K14, P4, K1.

2nd and Every Alternate Row: Purl the sts that were knitted and knit the sts that were purled in previous row.

3rd Row: Slip 1, P4, * slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, K10, knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, P6, * repeat from * to * to last 19 sts, slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, P4, K1.

5th Row: Slip 1, P5, * slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, K8, knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, P8, * repeat from * to * to last 18 sts, slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, K8, knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, P5, K1.

7th Row: Slip 1, P6, * slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, K6, knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, P10, * repeat from * to * to last 17 sts, slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, than knit 1st st, K6, knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, P6, K1.

9th Row: Slip 1, P7, * slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, K4, knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, P12, * repeat from * to * to last 16 sts, slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, K4, knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, P7, K1.

10th Row: Increase each end.

11th Row: Slip 1, P9, * slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, K2, knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, P14, * repeat from * to * to last 16 sts, slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, K2, knit 2nd st , purl 1st st, P9, K1.

13th Row Slip 1, P10, * slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, P16, * repeat from * to * to last 15 sts, slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, P10, K1.

15th Row: Slip 1, P1, * knit 2nd st, then knit 1st st, P5, * repeat from * to * to last 4 sts, knit 2nd st, knit 1st st, P1, K1

17th Row: Slip 1, * knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, P6, * repeat from * to * to last 5 sts, knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, K1.

20th Row: Increase each end.

21st Row: Slip 1, P5, * slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, P2, knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, P4, * repeat from * to * to last 2 sts, P1, K1.

23rd Row: Slip 1, P6, * slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, P6, * repeat from * to * to last st, K1.

25th Row Slip 1, P2, * knit 2nd st, then knit 1st st, P3, purl 2nd st, then purl 1st st, P3, * repeat from * to * to last 5 sts, knit 2nd st, then knit 1st st, P2, K 1.

27th Row: Slip 1, P1, * knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, P6, repeat from * to last 6 sts, knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, P1, K1.

29th Row: Slip 1, * knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, P2, slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, P4, * repeat from * to * to last 7 sts, knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, P2, slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, K1.

30th Row: Increase each end.

31st Row: Slip 1, * knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, P4, slip needle behind 1st st, and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, P2, * repeat from * to * to last 9 sts, knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, P4, purl 2nd st, knit 1st st, K1.

33rd Row: Slip 1, P7, * slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then knit 1st st, knit 2nd st, purl 1st st, P6, * repeat from * to * to last 2 sts, P1, K1.

35th Row: Slip 1, P5, * slip needle behind 1st st and purl 2nd st, then purl 1st st, P8, * repeat from * to * to last st, K1.

The rows 1-36 (without increasing) complete the pattern.

Continue to work, increasing each end of every 10th row until 86 rows. (120 sts – 10½ inches from ribbing.)

Begin Armhole Shaping

Cast off 7 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows, then decrease each end of next and every 2nd row until 92 sts Continue without further decrease until 68 rows in armhole.

Cast off 7 sts at beginning of each of next 4 rows, then 6 sts at beginning of each of next 4 rows.

Do not cast off remaining 40 sts

Finish off wool and leave sts on a spare needle.

Front

With No. 9 needles cast on 104 sts and work in ribbing K1, P1, for 26 rows, increasing 1 st at each end of last row. (106 sts)

Change to No. 8 needles and begin pattern.

1st Row: Slip 1, P5, (K14, P6) to last 20 sts, K14, P5, K1.

Continue to work in pattern as for the back, increasing each end of every 8th row until 86th row. (126 sts)

Begin Armhole Shaping

Cast off 7 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows, then decrease each end of each row until 92 sts

Work without further decrease until 36 rows in armhole.

37th Row: Work 1st 37 sts. Leave remaining sts on spare needle and work left side of yoke. decreasing at neck edge of every row until 26 sts remain, then work without further decrease until 68 rows in armhole.

Cast off as back.

Leave centre 18 sts on spare needle and work remaining 37 sts to correspond.

Sleeve

With No. 9 needles cast on 52 sts and work in ribbing, K1, P1, for 30 rows.

Change to No. 8 needles.

1st Row: Slip 1, knit to end.

2nd Row: (Right side of work) Slip 1, purl to last st, K1

Continue to work in stocking stitch, increasing each end of every 12th row until 62 sts, then every 10th row until 70 sts, every 8th row until 76 sts, every 6th row until 82 sts (142 rows from ribbing)

Begin Armhole Shaping

Cast off 7 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows, then decrease each end of next and every 4th row until 52 sts, then decrease every 2nd row until 28 sts, then every row until 12 sts. Cast off.

Press work.

Join shoulder seams, fit in sleeves.

Join side and sleeve seams.

Neck Band

Using the 4 No. 9 needles to work the band in circular fashion:

Join wool to Right Hand side of the back of neck and knit in pattern the 40 sts along back.

Pick up and knit 31 sts down Left side.

Knit in pattern the 18 sts in front and pick up and knit 31 sts along Right side of neck.

Work in ribbing, K1, P1, for 6 rows. Cast off.
