Materials

5 ozs. PATON'S SUPER Scotch Fingering Wool, 3-ply, and
1 Ball (½ oz.) "FUZZY WUZZY" Angora
the original was worked with Super Fingering, Bittersweet (shade 02579), and Angora, White.

Two UK No 1/7.5mm (no US equivalent) Knitting Needles

Five Stitch-holders

A UK No 13/2.25mm/US B-1 Crochet Hook.

Measurements

Length from top of shoulder - 18 ins.

Width all round at underarm, to fit - 34 to 36 ins (actual measurement, 38 ins)

Length of sleeve from underarm - 6½ ins.

Tension

Work at a tension to produce 4 stitches to the inch, measured over garter stitch.

The Pattern

The Right Front

Cast on 48 stitches.

Work 12 rows in plain knitting.

Continue in plain knitting, increasing once at the end of the needle in the next and every following 12th row, until there are 51 stitches on the needle.

Work 10 rows without shaping.

In the next row, cast off 2 stitches, knit plain to the end of the row.

Decrease once at arm-hole edge in next and every alternate row until 43 stitches remain.

Work 1 row without shaping.

Leave these stitches on a stitch-holder.

The Left Front

Cast on 48 stitches.

Work 12 rows in plain knitting.

Continue in plain knitting, increasing once at the beginning of the needle in the next and every following 12th row, until there are 51 stitches on the needle.

Work 9 rows without shaping.

In the next row, cast off 2 stitches, knit plain to the end of the row.

Decrease once at the arm-hole edge in every alternate row until 43 stitches remain.

Work 1 row without shaping. Break off the wool and leave these stitches on a stitch-holder.

The Back

Cast on 66 stitches.

Work 12 rows in plain knitting.

Continue in plain knitting, increasing once at each end of the needle in the next and every following 12th row, until there are 72 stitches on the needle.

Work 9 rows without shaping.

Cast off 2 stitches at the beginning of each of the next 2 rows.

Decrease once at each end of the needle in the next and every alternate row until 56 stitches remain.

Work 1 row without shaping.

Break off the wool and leave these stitches on a stitch-holder.

The Sleeves

Cast on 84 stitches.

Work 18 rows in plain knitting.

19th row: * K12, K2tog, repeat from * to the end of the row.

Work 9 rows in plain knitting.

29th row: * K11, K2tog, repeat from * to the end of the row.

Work 9 rows in plain knitting.

39th row: * K10, K2tog, repeat from *to the end of the row.

40th row: Knit plain.

41st row: Cast off 2 stitches, knit plain to the end of the row.

Repeat the 41st row seven times.

49th row: Cast off 2 stitches, K1, * K9, K2tog, repeat from * to the last 14 stitches, K14.

50th row: Cast off 2 stitches, knit plain to the end of the row.

Break off the wool and leave these stitches on a stitch-holder.

Work another Sleeve in the same manner.

Commencing again on the stitches of the Right Front, knit plain to the end of the row; knit the stitches of the first Sleeve, Back, second Sleeve and Left Front on to the end of same needle (228 stitches).

Proceed as follows:

Work 7 rows in plain knitting.

8th row: K14, (K2, K2tog) twenty-two times, K24, (K2tog, K2) twenty-two times, K14.

Work 9 rows in plain knitting.

18th row: K13, (K2, K2tog) seventeen times, K22, (K2tog, K2) seventeen times, K13.

Work 9 rows without shaping.

28th row: K13, (K2, K2tog) thirteen times, K20, (K2tog, K2) thirteen times, K13.

Work 9 rows without shaping.

38th row: K5, (K1, K2tog) thirty-eight times, K5.

39th row: Knit plain.

40th row: K1, * yo, K2tog, repeat from * to the last stitch, K1.

Work 8 rows in plain knitting.

Cast off.

To Make Up the Dressing Jacket

With a damp cloth and a hot iron, press carefully.

Sew up the side and sleeve seams.

Sew the sleeves in position.

Using 4 strands of wool 100 inches long, make a twisted cord, and thread through the holes at the neck.

Make two tassels and attach to each end of the cord.

The Frills

Note: This pattern uses UK crochet terms. UK single crochet = US slip stitch, UK double crochet = US single crochet, UK tr = US double crochet and so on.

With the right side of the work facing, join in the "Fuzzy-Wuzzy" Angora at the neck edge; working trebles 1 inch in height, work along the neck edge as follows:

1st row: 5 ch, [1 tr into first stitch, 3 ch, 1 sc into first ch. (to form a picot)] twice, 1 tr into same stitch, * miss 1 stitch, (1 tr, 1 picot, 1 tr, 1 picot, 1 tr) into the next stitch, repeat from * to the end of the row.

Fasten off.

Join in the Angora at the sleeves, work the Frills in the same manner, joining with sc at end of row.
