Fitted sweater/pullover with ostrich plume stitch panels up the front

Materials

5 skeins "Sun-Glo" Shrinkproof 2-ply Fingering Wool, Shade No. 2335 (Mushroom Pink);

2 prs. needles, UK Nos 10/3.25mm/US 3 and UK 12/2.75mm/US 2

press studs.

Measurements

Length from top of shoulder, 20";
bust, 32/34";
length of sleeve seam, 5".
Note: For 36" bust, use UK No 9/3.75mm/US 5 instead of No. 10 needles.

Tension

7 sts, 1"; 9 rows, 1".

Abbreviations

K: Knit.
P: Purl.
St: Stitch.
Tog: Together.
Sl: Slip
Yo: Yarn over
Psso: Pass slip stitch over.
Tbl: Through back of loops.
DC: Double crochet. (US single crochet)
Bl: blue.
St st (Stocking Stitch): K1 row, P1 row alternately.
Garter St: Knit every row.
Moss st: With an uneven number of sts work as follows: K1,* P1, K1, repeat from * to end of row.
Repeat this row throughout.

With an even number of sts work as follows: 1st Row: * K1, P1, repeat from * to end of row.
2nd Row: * P1, K1, repeat from * to end of row.
Repeat 1st and 2nd row alternately.

Pattern

A multiple of 19 sts, plus 2 extra sts

Back

Using No. 12 needles, cast on 100 sts and work in rib of K1, P1, for 3½" (working 1st row into back of sts).

Change to No. 10 needles.

Next Row: * P twice into next st, P2, repeat from * to last 4 sts, P twice into each of next 3 sts, P1 (135 sts).

Work in following pattern.

1st Row: K1, * K3, K2tog, K4, yo, P1, yo, K4, slip 1, K1, psso, K3, repeat from * to last st, K1.

2nd Row: P1, * P2, P2tog tbl, P4, yo, P1, K1, P1, yo, P4, P2tog, P2, repeat from * to last st, P1.

3rdRow: K1, * K1, K2tog, K4, yo, K2, P1, K2, yo, K4, sl 1, K1, psso, K1, repeat from * to last st, K1.

4th Row: P1, * P2tog tbl, P4, yo, P3, K1, P3, yo, P4, P2tog, repeat from * to last st, P1.

These 4 rows form the pattern.

Continue in pattern until work measures 12½", ending with 4th row of pattern.

Next Row: (K1, P1) 14 times, work 78 sts in pattern, P1, (K1, P1) 14 times.

Next Row: (K1, P1) 14 times, K1, work 78 sts in pattern, (K1, P1) 14 times.

Keeping centre 78 sts in pattern and side in rib of K1, P1, shape armholes by casting off 8 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows,
K2tog at armhole edge of the next 4 rows,
then every 2nd row 4 times.

Continue without shaping for 1 more complete pattern.

Next Row: K1, (P1, K1) 15 times, work 40 sts in pattern, (K1, P1) 16 times.

2nd Row: (K1, P1) 16 times, work 40 sts in pattern, (P1, K1) 15 times, P1.

Continue keeping centre 40 sts in pattern for 5 complete patterns.

Next Row: (K1, P1) 34 times, K1, P2tog, (K1, P1) 16 times.

Continue across all sts in rib of K1, P1, until armhole measures 7", then shape shoulders by casting off 10 sts at the beginning of the next 6 rows.

Cast off remaining sts loosely.

Front

Work the same as for back

Sleeves

Using No. 10 needles, cast on 79 sts and work as follows, (working 1st row into back of sts)

Next Row: (K1, P1) 15 times, work 19 sts in pattern, (P1, K1) 15 times.

2nd Row: (P1, K1) 15 times, work 19 sts in pattern, (K1, P1) 15 times.

Continue in this way for 1", then keeping continuity of pattern and rib, increase 1 st each end of every 2nd row until increased to 95 sts

When sleeve seam measures 5", K2tog each end of every 2nd row until decreased to 61 sts, then every row until decreased to 29 sts

Cast off.

Shoulder Pads

Using No. 10 needles, cast on 42 sts and work in st st for 6".

Cast off.

Fold diagonally, lightly pad with cotton wool and sew up edges.

To Make Up

Press lightly with a warm iron and damp cloth.

Sew up seams, leaving an opening on left shoulder.

Sew in sleeves and shoulder pads.

Work 2 rows of DC along back of shoulder and 1 row along front.

Sew press studs on shoulder opening.
