Patons Beehive Baby Wool or Patons Baby Wool with Nylon
Size A – 18 inch underarm – 2 balls
Size B – 20 inch underarm – 3 balls
Length from top of shoulder – Both Sizes – 10½ ins.
Length of sleeve seam – Size A – 6½ ins. Size B – 7 ins.
Knitting Needles, 1 pair each UK Nos 10/3.25mm/US 3 and UK 12/2.75mm/US 2
Two Stitch Holders.
Seven Small Buttons.
Tension
8 stitches to the inch in width, measured over stocking stitch.
Pattern
Instructions are for smaller size A. Larger size B is shown thus [B-…].
The Left Front
Using No. 12 Needles, cast on 36 [B-40] stitches.
1st row: * K1, P1, rep. from* to last 2 sts, K2.
Rep. 1st row sixteen times.
18th row: (K1, P1) four times, * inc. once in next st, work 4 [B-5] sts in rib, rep. from * to last 3 [B-2] sts inc. once in next st, K2 [B-K1]. (42 [B-46] sts).
Using No. 10 Needles, proceed as follows:
** 1st row: K2 [B-K6],, (P2, K1, yo, K2tog, K1, P2, K6) twice, P2, K1, yo, K2tog, K1,, (K1, P1) twice, K2.
2nd row: (K1, P1) three times, purl to last st, K1
3rd row: K2 [B-K6],, (P2, K1, K2tog, yo, K1, P2, K6) twice, P2, K1, K2tog, yo, K1,, (K1, P1) twice, K2.
4th row: As 2nd row. **
Rep. from ** to ** fourteen times.
Keeping continuity of patt. cast off 2 sts at beg. of next row, then dec. once at armhole edge in every row four
times. then every alt. row twice. (34 [B-38] sts).
Work 11 rows without shaping.
Proceed as follows:
1st row: Work in patt. to last 12 sts, slip these sts on to a stitch holder.
Work in patt. on remaining 22 [B-26] sts, dec. once at neck edge in every alt. row until 16 [B-19] sts remain.
Work 6 [B-4] rows without shaping.
Shape shoulder as follows:
1st row: Work to last 8 [B-9] sts, turn.
2nd row: Work to end of row. Cast off.
The Right Front
Using No. 12 Needles, cast on 36 [B-40] stitches.
1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep. from * to end of row.
Rep. 1st row once.
3rd row: K2, P1, K1, yo, K2tog * P1, K1, rep. from * to end of row.
Rep. 1st row fourteen times.
18th row: K2 [B-K1] * inc. once in next st, work 4 [B-5] sts in rib, rep. from * to last 9 sts, inc. once in next st, (P1, K1) four times. (42 [B-46] sts).
Using No. 10 Needles, proceed as follows:
1st row: K2, P1, K1, yo, K2tog, (K1, yo, K2tog, K1, P2, K6, P2) twice, K1, yo, K2tog, K1, P2, K2 [B-K6].
2nd row: K1, purl to last 6 sts, (P1, K1) three times.
3rd row: K2, (P1, K1) twice, (K1, K2tog, yo, K1, P2, K6, P2) twice, K1, K2tog, yo, K1, P2, K2 [B-K6].
4th row: K1, purl to last 6 sts, (P1, K1) three times.
5th row: K2, (P1, K1) twice, (K1, yo, K2tog, K1, P2, K6, P2) twice, K1, yo, K2tog, K1, P2, K2.
6th row: As 4th row.
Work to correspond with Left Front, working border and shapings at opposite ends of needle and making a buttonhole as before in every 16th row from previous buttonhole. (6 buttonholes.)
The Back
Using No. 12 Needles, cast on 56 [B-64] stitches.
1st row: K2 * P1, K1, rep. from * to end of row.
Rep. 1st row sixteen times.
18th row: Work 8 [B-4] sts in rib * inc. once in next st, work 3 [B–4] sts in rib, rep. from * to end of row. (68 [B-76] sts).
Using No. 10 Needles, proceed as follows:
** 1st row: K2 [B-K6] * P2, K1, yo, K2tog, K1, P2, K6, rep. from *to last 10 sts, P2, K1, yo, K2tog, K1, P2, K2 [B-to end of row].
2nd row: K1, purl to last st, K1.
3rd row: K2 [B-K6] * P2, K1, K2tog, yo, K1, P2, K6, rep. from * to last 10 sts, P2, K1, K2tog, yo, K1, P2, K2 [B-to end of row].
4th row: As 2nd row. **
Rep. from ** to ** fourteen times.
Cast off 2 sts at beg. of next 2 rows.
Continue in patt. dec. once at each end of needle in every row four times, then in every alt. row twice. (52 [B-60] sts).
Continue in patt. without shaping until armholes measure same as Front armholes.
Shape shoulders as follows:
1st and 2nd rows: Work to last 8 [B-9] sts, turn.
3rd and 4th rows: Work to last 16 [B-19] sts, turn.
5th row: Work to end of row. Cast off.
The Sleeves
Using No. 12 Needles, cast on 38 [B-42] stitches.
1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep. from * to end of row.
Rep. 1st row thirteen times.
Using No. 10 Needles, proceed as follows:
** 1st row: K15 [B-K17], P2, K1, yo, K2tog, K1, P2, K15 [B-K17].
2nd row: K1, purl to last st, K1.
3rd row: K15 [B-K17], P2, K1, K2tog, yo, K1, P2, K15 [B-K17].
4th row: As 2nd row. **
Rep. from ** to ** once.
Continue in patt. inc. once at each end of needle in next and every following 6th row until there are 56 [B-60] sts on needle.
Work 1 [B-5] row/s in patt. without shaping.
Dec. once at each end of needle in every row until 28 [B-32] sts remain. Cast off.
Work another Sleeve in same manner.
The Neckband
Using a flat seam, sew up shoulder seams.
With right side of work facing and using No. 12 Needles, slip 12 sts from Right Front stitch holder on needle, join in wool and knit up 59 [B-63] sts evenly round neck, then P2, K1, K2tog, yo, K1, (K1, P1) twice, K2 across 12 sts from Left Front stitch holder. (83 [B-87] sts).
1st row: * K1, P1, rep. from * to last st, K1.
2nd row: K2, P1, K1, yo, K2tog, * P1, K1, rep. from * to last st, K1.
3rd row: As 1st row.
4th row: K2 * P1, K1, rep. from * to last st, K1.
Rep. 3rd and 4th rows once. Cast off loosely in rib.
To Make Up
With a slightly damp cloth and warm iron, press lightly.
Using a flat seam, sew up side and sleeve seams.
Sew in sleeves, placing seams to side seams.
Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes. Finally, press all seams.
