18 inch underarm – 2 balls
Length from top of shoulder – 10½ ins.
Length of sleeve seam – 6 ins.
Knitting Needles, 1 pair UK No 10/3.25mm/US 3
Five Stitch Holders.
Four Small Buttons.
Tension
8 stitches to the inch in width, measured over stocking stitch.
Pattern
The Jacket is worked in one piece to armholes.
Cast on 185 stitches.
1st row: Knit.
Rep 1st row twice. Proceed as follows:
** 1st row: K5, * yo, slip 1, K1, psso, K3, K2tog, yo, K1, Rep from * to last 4 sts, K4.
2nd and alt. rows: K4, purl to last 4 sts, K4.
3rd row: K6, * yo, slip 1, K1, psso, K1, K2tog, yo, K3, Rep from * to last 3 sts, K3.
5th row: K7, * yo, slip 1, K2tog, psso, yo, K5, Rep from * to last 2 sts, K2.
6th row: As 2nd row.
7th row: Knit.
Rep 7th row three times. **
Rep from ** to ** once.
Proceed as follows:
1st row: Knit.
2nd row: K4, purl to last 4 sts, K4.
Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 7 ins. from commencement, ending with 1st row.
Next row: K4, P43, P2tog, turn. Leave remaining sts on a spare needle.
Continue in stocking stitch on these 48 sts
Keeping Garter st. border at front edge, dec. once at armhole edge in every row until 43 sts remain.
Next row: K4, P1, (P2tog, P2) four times, (P2tog) five times, (P2, P2tog) three times. (31 sts). Break off wool. Leave these sts on a stitch holder for Left Front.
With wrong side of work facing join in wool to remaining sts, P2tog, P83, P2tog, turn.
Continue on these 85 sts, dec. once at each end of needle in every row until 75 sts remain.
Next row: (P2tog, P2) eight times, (P2tog) twice, P3tog, (P2tog) twice, (P2, P2tog) eight times. (53 sts).
Break off wool.
Leave these sts on a stitch holder for Back
With wrong side of work facing, join in wool to remaining sts, P2tog, P43, K4.
Continue in stocking stitch keeping Garter Stitch border at front edge on these 48 sts, dec. once at armhole edge in every row until 43 sts remain.
Next row: (P2tog, P2) three times, (P2tog) five times, (P2, P2tog) four times, P1, K4. (31 sts).
Leave these sts on a stitch holder for Right Front until sleeves are worked.
The Sleeves
Cast on 41 stitches.
1st row: Knit.
Rep 1st row twice.
Proceed as follows:
** 1st row: K1, * yo, slip 1, K1, psso, K3, K2tog, yo, K1, Rep from * to end of row.
2nd and alt. rows: K1, purl to last st., K1
3rd row: K2, * yo, slip 1, K1, psso, K1, K2tog, yo, K3, Rep from * to last 7 sts, yo, slip 1, K1, psso, K1, K2tog, yo, K2.
5th row: K3, * yo, slip 1, K2tog, psso, yo, K5, Rep from * to last 6 sts, yo, slip 1, K2tog, psso, yo, K3.
7th row: Knit.
Rep 7th row three times. **
Rep from ** to ** once.
Proceed as follows:
1st row: K5, * inc. once in next st., K5, Rep from * to end of row. (47 sts).
2nd row: K1, purl to last st., K1.
3rd row: Knit.
Rep 2nd row once.
Continue in stocking stitch inc. once at each end of needle in next and every following 8th row until there are 53 sts on needle.
Continue without shaping until side edge measures 6 ins. from commencement, ending with a knit row.
Dec. once at each end of needle in every row until 41 sts remain.
Next row: P2tog, P5, (P2tog, P6) four times, P2tog Break off wool, leave these 35 sts on a stitch holder.
Work another Sleeve in same manner.
The Yoke
Slip the 31sts left for right front onto a needle. Knit these 31sts, then k35 sts of one sleeve, the 53sts of the back, the 35sts of the other sleeve, then 31sts of left front (185sts on the needle)
Proceed as follows:
** 1st row: Knit
2nd row: K2, yo, k2tog, (buttonhole), knit to end of row
Rep 1st row once.
4th row: K5, * yo, slip 1, k1, psso, k3, k2tog, yo, k1, Rep from * to last 4 sts, K4
5th and alt rows: K4, purl to last 4sts, k4
6th row: K6, * yo, slip 1, k1, psso, k1, k2tog, yo, k3, Rep from * to last 3sts, K3
8th row: K7, * yo, slip 1, k2tog, psso, yo, k5, Rep from * to last 2sts, k2
9th row: As 5th row. **
Next row: K4, * K2tog, K2, K2tog, K3, Rep from * to last st, K1. (145 sts).
Rep from ** to ** once.
Next row: K3, * K2tog, K1, K2tog, K2, Rep from * to last 2 sts, K2. (105 sts).
Rep from ** to ** once.
Next row: K3, * (K2tog) twice, K1, Rep from * to last 2 sts, K2. (65 sts).
Next row: Knit.
Next row: K2, yo, K2tog, knit to end of row.
Next row: Knit.
Cast off tightly.
To Make Up
With a slightly damp cloth and warm iron, press lightly.
Using a flat seam, sew up sleeve and armhole seams.
Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes. Finally, press all seams.
