The Jacket

19 - 20 inch underarm - 3 balls
Length from top of shoulder - 11½ ins.
Length of sleeve seam - 7 ins. (or length desired)

Knitting Needles, 1 pair each UK Nos 10/3.25mm/US 3 and UK 12/2.75mm/US 2

Patons Crochet Hook, UK No 12/2.75mm/US C-2

Four Small Buttons.

Tension

8 stitches to the inch in width, measured over plain smooth fabric.

Pattern

The Left Front

Using No. 10 Needles, cast on 65 stitches.

** 1st row: K1, * (K2tog) three times, (yo, K1) six times, (K2tog) three times, rep. from twice, (K2tog) three times, (yo, K1) three times, K1.

2nd row: K1, purl to last st, K1.

3rd row: Knit

4th row: As 2nd row.

Rep. 3rd row twice. **

Rep. from ** to ** twelve times, then from 1st to 4th row once.

Using No. 12 Needles, proceed as follows:

1st row: * K1, K2tog, rep. from to last 2 sts, K2. (44 sts).

2nd row: K2, * P1, K1, rep. from * to end of row.

Rep. 2nd row six times, dec. once at end of needle in last row. (43 sts).

Using No. 10 Needles, proceed as follows:

1st row: K1, bring the yarn to the front * slip 1 purlways, P1, rep. from * to last 2 sts, slip 1 purlways, take the yarn to the back, K1.

2nd row: K1, * K1, P1, rep. from * to last 2 sts, K2.

3rd row: Knit.

4th row: K1, purl to last st, K1.

Rep. 1st and 2nd rows once.

7th row: Cast off 3 sts, Knit to end of row.

8th row: As 4th row.

9th row: K2tog, bring yarn to the front, * slip 1 purlways, P1, rep. from * to last 2 sts, slip 1 purlways, take the yarn to the back, K1.

10th row: K1, * K1, P1, rep. from * to last 2 sts, K2.

11th row: K2tog, knit to end of row.

12th row: As 4th row.

***13th row: K1, * P1, slip 1 purlways, rep. from * to last st, take the yarn to the back, K1.

14th row: K2, * P1, K1, rep. from * to end of row.

15th row: Knit.

16th row: K1, purl to last st, K1. ***

Rep. from *** to *** eight times, then 13th row once.

Proceed as follows:

Next row: Cast off 14 sts, K2, * P1, K1, rep. from * to end of row.

Continue in patt., dec. once at neck edge in every row until 20 sts remain.

Work 1 row without shaping.

Shape shoulders as follows:

1st row: Work to last 10 sts, turn.

2nd row: Work to end of row. Cast off.

The Right Front

Using No. 10 Needles. cast on 65 stitches.

** 1st row: K1, * (yo, K1) three times, (K2tog) six times, (yo, K1) three times, rep. from * twice, (yo, K1) three times, (K2tog) three times, K1.

2nd row: K1, purl to last st, K1.

3rd row: Knit

4th row: As 2nd row.

Rep. 3rd row twice. **

Rep. from ** to ** twelve times, then from 1st to 4th row once.

Work to correspond with Left Front, working shapings at opposite ends of needle and making a buttonhole in 5th row, following 18th row once, then following 16th rows twice.

To make a buttonhole: K2, yo twice, K2tog, work in patt. to end of row (working yo twice as one st. in following row).

The Back

Using No. 10 Needles, cast on 128 stitches.

** 1st row: K1, * (K2tog) three times, (yo, K1) six times, (K2tog) three times, rep. from * to last st, K1.

2nd row: K1, purl to last st, K1.

3rd row: Knit.

4th row: As 2nd row.

Rep. 3rd row twice. **

Rep. from ** to ** twelve times, then from 1st to 4th row once.

Using No. 12 Needles, proceed as follows:

1st row: K8, * K2tog, K1, rep. from * to last 9 sts, K2tog, K7 (90 sts).

2nd row: K2, * P1, K1, rep. from * to end of row.

Rep. 2nd row six times, dec. once at end of needle in last row.

Using No. 10 Needles, proceed as follows:

1st row: K1, bring yarn to the front, * slip 1 purlways, P1, rep. from * to last 2 sts, slip 1 purlways, take the yarn to the back, K1.

2nd row: K1, * K1, P1, rep. from * to last 2 sts, K2.

3rd row: Knit.

4th row: K1, purl to last st, K1.

Rep. 1st and 2nd rows once.

Cast off 3 sts at beg. of next 2 rows.

9th row: K2tog, bring yarn to the front, * slip 1 purlways, P1, rep. from * to last 3 sts, slip 1 purlways, take the yarn to the back, K2tog

10th row: K1, * K1, P1, rep. from * to last 2 sts, K2.

11th row: K2tog, knit to last 2 sts, K2tog

12th row: K1, purl to last st, K1.

*** 13th row: K1, * P1, slip I purlways, rep. from * to last 2 sts, P1, K1.

14th row: * K1, P1, rep. from * to last st, K1.

15th row: Knit.

16th row: K1, purl to last st, K1 ***

Rep. from *** to *** ten times.

Shape shoulders as follows:

1st and 2nd rows: Work to last 10 sts, turn.

3rd and 4th rows: Work to last 20 st, turn.

5th row: Work to end of row. Cast off.

The Sleeves

Using No. 12 Needles, cast on 42 stitches.

1st row: Knit.

Rep. 1st row twice.

4th row: K5, * inc. once in next st, rep. from * to last 5 sts, K5. (74 sts).

Using No. 10 Needles, proceed as follows:

** 1st row: K1, * (K2tog) three times, (yo, K1) six times, (K2tog) three times, rep. from * three times, K1.

2nd row: K1, purl to last st, K1.

3rd row: Knit.

4th row: As 2nd row.

Rep. 3rd row twice. **

Rep. from ** to ** twelve times, then 1st and 2nd rows once.

Cast off 2 sts at beg. of next 4 rows.

Proceed as follows:

1st row: Cast off 2 sts, K4, * (yo, K1) three times, (K2tog) six times, (yo, K1) three times, rep. from * twice, K6.

Cast off 2 sts at beg. of next 5 rows.

7th row: Cast off 2 sts, K1, * (K2tog) six times, (yo, K1) s!x times, rep. from * once, (K2tog) six times, K3.

Cast off 2 sts at beg. of next 3 rows.

Cast off.

Work another Sleeve in same manner.

To Make Up

With a slightly damp cloth and warm iron, press lightly.

Using a flat seam, sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams.

Sew in sleeves, placing seams to side seams.

With right side of work facing, using Crochet Hook, join in wool at neck edge of Left Front, and work picot edge round jacket as follows:

1st round: * 4 ch, slip st. into 1st ch, 1 dc (US single crochet) into each of next 3 sts, rep. from * all round edge of jacket. Fasten off.

Work around edge of each cuff in same manner.

Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes.

Finally, press picot edges and all seams.

The Frock

Size and Materials

18-19 inch underarm - 5 balls
Length from top of shoulder, 17½ ins.
Length of sleeve seam, 2½ ins.

Knitting Needles, 1 pair each UK Nos 10/3.25mm/US 3 and UK 12/2.75mm/US 2

Patons Crochet Hook, UK No 12/2.75mm/US C-2

Pattern

The Front

Using No. 10 Needles, cast on 164 stitches.

** 1st row: K1, * (K2tog) three times, (yo, K1) six times, (K2tog) three times rep. from * to last st, K1.

2nd row: K1, purl to last st, K1.

3rd row: Knit.

4th row: As 2nd row.

Rep. 3rd row twice. **

Rep. from ** to ** nineteen times, then 1st row once.

Using No. 12 Needles, proceed as follows:

1st row: K1, * K2tog, rep. from * to last st, K1. (83 sts).

2nd row: * K1, P1, rep. from * to last st, K1.

3rd row: K2, * P1, K1, rep. from * to last st, K1.

Rep. 2nd and 3rd rows three times.

Using No. 10 Needles, proceed as follows:

1st row: K1, bring yarn to the front, * slip 1 purlways, P1, rep. from * to last 2 sts, slip 1 purlways, take the yarn to the back, K1.

2nd row: K1, * K1, P1, rep. from * to last 2 sts, K2.

3rd row: Knit.

4th row: K1, purl to last st, K1.

Rep. 1st and 2nd rows once.

Cast off 5 sts at beg. of next 2 rows.

9th row: K2tog, bring yarn to the front, * slip 1 purlways, P1, rep. from * to last 3 sts, slip 1, take the yarn to the back, K2tog

10th row: K1, * K1, P1, rep. from * to last 2 sts, K2.

11th row: K2tog, knit to last 2 sts, K2tog

12th row: K1, purl to last st, K1. (69 sts).

*** 13th row: K1, bring yarn to the front, * P1, slip 1 purlways, rep. from * to last 2 sts, P1, K1.

14th row: K1, * P1, K1, rep. from * to end of row.

15th row: Knit.

16th row: K1, purl to last st, K1. ***

Rep. from *** to *** seven times, then 1st and 2nd rows once.

Next row: Work 25 sts, cast off 19 sts, work to end of row.

Continue in patt. on last 25 sts, dec. once at neck edge in every row until 20 sts remain.

Shape shoulder as follows:

1st row: Work to last 10 sts, turn.

2nd row: Work to end of row. Cast off.

Join in wool at neck edge and work on remaining sts to correspond with other side.

The Back

Work exactly as given for Front until armhole shapings are completed. (69 sts)

Work in patt. until armholes measure same as Front armholes.

Shape shoulders as follows:

1st and 2nd rows: Work to last 10 sts, turn.

3rd and 4th rows: Work to last 20 sts, turn.

5th row: Work to end of row. Cast off.

The Sleeves

Using No. 12 Needles, cast on 42 stitches.

1st row: Knit.

Rep. 1st row four times.

6th row: K3, * inc. once in next st, rep. from * to last 3 sts, K3. (78 sts).

Using No. 10 Needles, proceed as follows:

** 1st row: K3, * (K2tog) three times, (yo, K1) six times, (K2tog) three times, rep. from * three times, K3.

2nd row: K1, purl to last st, K1.

3rd row: Knit.

4th row: As 2nd row.

Rep. 3rd row twice. **

Rep. from ** to ** twice, then from 1st to 4th row once.

Cast off 2 sts at beg. of needle in every row until 42 sts remain. Cast off.

Work another Sleeve in same manner.

To Make Up

With a slightly damp c10th and warm iron, press lightly.

Using a flat seam, sew up side and sleeve seams.

Sew up shoulder seams for ½ inch.

Sew in sleeves placing seams to side seams and gathering extra fullness at top.

Using Crochet Hook, and with right side of work facing, work picot edge round front and back of neck and hem as follows:

1st round: * 4 ch, 1 slip st. into first ch, 1 dc (US single crochet) into each of next 3 sts, rep. from * to end of round (working 16 picots round neck). Fasten off.

Work 2 rows of dc along shoulder openings making 2 button loops on front of each shoulder in 2nd row.

Sew on buttons to correspond with loops. Finally, press all seams
