Materials
- 6 skeins brown 3-ply crochet wool (note: the picture shows the jumper knit in blue and yellow, however the instructions use brown and fawn);
- 1 oz. fawn 3-ply crochet wool;
- 1 pr. each of old UK Nos. 10 and 12/US 3 and 2/metric 2.75 and 3.25mm needles;
- 3 press-studs

Measurements
To fit a 25 to 26 in. chest;
length from top of shoulder, 17 inches;
length of sleeve at underarm, 13 inches.
Tension
7 stitches to 1 inch.
Pattern
Back
With smaller needles and brown wool cast on 90 sts.
Knit in rib of K1, P1 for 30 rows.
Change to larger needles. Knit 1 row. Join in fawn wool.
Purl 1 row. Break off fawn wool. Join in brown.
Continue in stocking st. till work measures 12 inches from commencement.
To Shape Armholes:
Cast off 6 sts. at each end of next 2 rows (78 sts).
Then K2 tog. at each end of next and 2 alt. rows
(72 sts).
Continue in stocking st. for next 50 rows till work measures 16½ inches from commencement.
To Shape Shoulders:
Cast off 7 sts. at beg. of next 6 rows (30 sts).
Cast off.
Front
With smaller needles cast on 90 sts. in brown wool.
Rib K1, P1 for 30 rows.
Change to larger needles. Knit 1 row. Join in fawn wool.
Purl 1 row. Break off fawn wool.

33rd row: Knit, same colours as on needle. Break off fawn wool.
Chart
Continue in stocking st. till work measures same as back to armholes.
To Shape Armholes:
Cast off 6 sts. at beg. of next 2 rows (78 sts).
Knit 2 tog. each end of next and 2 alt. rows (72 sts).
Knit 11 rows in stocking st.
Knit 36 sts. Put remaining sts. on holder.
Continue on these 36 sts. as follows:
Next row: K4, purl to end.
2nd row: Knit.
Repeat these last 2 rows 12 times.
Cast off 12 sts. at neck edge on purl row. Then knit 2 tog. at neck till there are 21 sts. remaining.
Continue till work measures same as back at armhole edge.
Cast off 7 sts. at armhole edge 3 times.
Join in wool at opening of neck, and work the other side to correspond with left side.
Sleeves (both alike)
With smaller needles and brown wool cast on 56 sts.
Knit in rib of K1, P1 for 22 rows.
Change to larger needles. Knit 1 row. Join in fawn wool.
Purl 1 row. Break off fawn and join in brown.
Continue in stocking st. for 2 more rows.
On next row inc. 1 st. each end of needle and every 8th row till there are 80 sts. on needle.
Work 6 more rows or length desired.
Cast off 6 sts. at beg. of next 2 rows.
Then K2 tog. each end of needle every row till 18 sts. remain.
Cast off.
Collar
With smaller needles and brown wool cast on 84 sts.
1st row: Knit.
2nd row: K3, purl till 3 remain, K3.
Repeat last 2 rows 12 times.
Repeat 1st row 3 times.
Cast off.
To Make Up
Press the two sides and sleeves, and collar.
Sew up two sides and shoulders, also sleeve seams.
Insert sleeves, and sew on collar.
Work spots on giraffe, also eyes, and the small horn on head.
Sew on fasteners at neck.
