18 inch underarm – 1 ball

Length from top of shoulder – 10″

Knitting Needles, 1 pair UK No 10/3.25mm/US 2

Crochet Hook UK No 12/2.75mm/US C-2

¾ yard Narrow Ribbon

Tension

To get these measurements it is absolutely necessary to work at a tension to produce 8 stitches to the inch in width, measured over stocking stitch.

Pattern

The Front

Cast on 73 stitches.

1st row: K1, * P2, K1, rep from * to end of row.

2nd row: K3, * P1, K2, rep from * to last st, K1.

Rep. 1st and 2nd rows forty-one times, then 1st row once.

Keeping continuity of rib, cast off 3 sts at beg of each of next 2 rows.

Proceed as follows:

1st row: K1, K2tog, work 18 sts in rib, [K1, (K2tog) twice, (yo, K1) three times, yo,(K2tog) twice] twice, K1, work 18 sts in rib, K2tog, K1.

2nd row: Work 20 sts in rib, K25, work 20 sts in rib.

3rd row: K1, K2tog, work 17 sts in rib, K25, work 17 sts in rib, K2tog, K1.

4th row: Work 19 sts in rib, P25, work 19 sts in rib.

5th row: K1, K2tog, work 16 sts in rib, [K1, (K2tog) twice, (yo, K1) three times, yo, (K2tog) twice] twice, K1, work 16 sts in rib, K2tog, K1.

6th and 7th rows: Work 18 sts in rib, K25, work 18 sts in rib.

8th row: Work 18 sts in rib, P25, work 18 sts in rib.

9th row: Work 18 sts in rib, [K1, (K2tog) twice, (yo, K1) three times, yo, (K2tog) twice] twice, K1, work 18 sts in rib.

10th row: Like 6th row.

11th row: Work 18 sts in rib, K2, cast off 21 sts, K2, work 18 sts in rib.

Work on last 20 sts as follows:

Dec. once at neck edge in every row until 16 sts remain.

Work 12 rows in rib. Cast off.

Join in wool at neck edge and work other side to correspond.

The Back

Work exactly as given for Front, until armholes have been reached.

Keeping continuity of rib, cast off 3 sts at beg of each of next 2 rows.

Dec. once at each end of needle in next and every alt row until 61 sts remain.

Work 13 rows in rib.

In next row: Work 20 sts in rib, cast off 21 sts, work 20 sts in rib.

Work on last 20 sts as follows:

Dec. once at neck edge in every row until 16 sts remain.

Work 4 rows in rib. Cast off.

Join in wool at neck edge and work other side to correspond.

To Make Up

With a slightly damp cloth and warm iron, press lightly.

Sew up side and shoulder seams.

Work 1 round of dc round neck.

2nd round: 3 ch, * miss 2 sts, 1 tr into next st, 2 ch, rep from * to end of round.

Fasten off.

Work 1 round dc round armholes.

2nd round: * 6 dc, 6 ch, slip-stitch into top of last dc, rep from * to end of round.

Fasten off. Thread ribbon round neck.
