Short sleeved baby jacket with v-neck

Materials and Size

Patons Beehive Baby Wool
or
Patons Baby Wool with Nylon

Size A. 17 inch underarm, 2 balls.
Size B. 19 inch underarm, 2 balls
Length from top of shoulder - Size A - 6½ ins. Size B - 7 ins.
Length of sleeve seam - Both Sizes - 1½ ins.

Knitting Needles, 1 pair each UK Nos 10/3.25mm/US 3 and UK 12/2.75mm/US 2

Four Small Buttons.

Tension

8 stitches to the inch in width, measured over plain smooth fabric.

Instructions are for smaller size A. Larger size B is shown thus [B-...].

Pattern

The Left Front

Using No. 12 Needles, cast on 47 [B-51] stitches.

1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1.

2nd row: K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end of row.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows six times.

Using No. 10 Needles, proceed as follows:

** 1st row: * K1, P1, rep from * to last 7 sts, K1, P2, yo, K2tog, P1, K1.

2nd row: K2, P2, K2, purl to last st, K1.

3rd row: K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last 7 sts, K1, P2, K2tog, yo, P1, K1.

4th row: As 2nd row. **

rep from ** to ** three [B-three] times.

Next row: Work in patt. to last 9 sts, P2tog, K1, P2, yo, K2tog, P1, K1.

Next row: K2, P2, K2, purl to last st, K1.

Keeping continuity of patt., dec. once at end of needle (inside border of 7 sts) in next and every alt. row twice.
(43 [B-47] sts).

Work 1 row without shaping.

Cast off 4 [B-5] sts, work in patt. to last 9 sts, P2tog, K1, P2, yo, K2tog, P1, K1.

Next row: K2, P2, K2, purl to last st, K1.

Continue in patt., dec. once at beg. of needle in next row and every alt. row three times, whilst at same time dec. once at end of needle (inside border) in next row and every alt. row three times. (30 [B-33] sts).

Continue in patt. dec. once at end of needle in every alt. row until 17 [B-19] sts remain.

Work 4 [B-4] rows without shaping.

Shape shoulder as follows:

1st row: Work to last 8 [B-9] sts, turn.

2nd row: Work to end of row. Cast off.

The Right Front

Using No. 12 Needles, cast on 47 [B-51] stitches.

1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep from* to last st, K1.

2nd row: K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end of row.

rep 1st and 2nd rows once.

5th row: (On which buttonhole is worked) Rib 25 [B-rib 25], cast off 2 sts, rib to end of row.

6th row: Rib 20 [B-rib 24], cast on 2 sts, rib to end of row.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows four times.

Using No. 10 Needles, proceed as follows:

** 1st row: K1, P1, yo, K2tog, P2, * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.

2nd row: K1, purl to last 6 sts, K2, P2, K2.

3rd row: K1, P1, K2tog, yo, P2, K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1.

4th row: As 2nd row. **

rep from ** to ** twice [B-twice], then 1st and 2nd rows once.

Next row: (On which 2nd buttonhole is worked) Work 25 [B-25] sts in patt., cast off 2 sts, work in patt. to end of row.

Next row: Work 20 [B-24] sts in patt., cast on 2 sts, work in patt. to end of row.

Shape front slope as follows:

Next row: K1, P1, yo, K2tog, P2, K1, P2tog tbl, * P1, K1, rep from * to end of row.

Work to correspond with Left Front, working shapings at opposite ends of needle.

The Back

Using No. 12 Needles, cast on 71 [B-79] stitches.

1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1.

2nd row: K1, * P1, K1, rep from* to end of row.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows six times.

Using No. 10 Needles, proceed as follows:

** 1st row: * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.

2nd row: K1, purl to last st, K1.

3rd row: K2, * P1, K1, rep from* to last st, K1.

4th row: As 2nd row. **

rep from ** to ** five [B-five] times.

Keeping continuity of patt., cast off 4 [B-5] sts at beg. of next 2 rows, then dec. once at each end of needle in
next and every alt. row until 55 [B-61] sts remain.

Continue without shaping until armholes measure same as Front armholes.

Shape shoulders as follows:

1st and 2nd rows: Work to last 8 [B-9] sts, turn.

3rd and 4th rows: Work to last 17 [B-19] sts, turn.

5th row: Work to end of row. Cast off.

The Sleeves

Using No. 12 Needles, cast on 38 [B-40] stitches.

1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to end of row.

Rep 1st row four times.

6th row: K1 [B-rib 3], * inc. once in next st, P1, rep from * to last 1 [B-5] st/s, inc. once in next st [B-inc. once in next st, rib 4]. (57 [B-57] sts).

Using No. 10 Needles, proceed as follows:

Work as given from ** to ** for Back

Rep from ** to ** twice.

Dec. once at each end of needle in next and every alt. row until 29 sts remain, then in every row until 17 sts remain.

Cast off, knitting 2 tog. to last 3 sts, K3tog, fasten off.

Work another Sleeve in same manner.

The Front Band

Using No. 12 Needles, cast on 7 stitches.

1st row: K2, (P1, K1) twice, K1.

2nd row: (K1, P1) three times, K1.

rep 1st and 2nd rows once.

5th row: K2, P1, cast off 2 sts, K2.

6th row: K1, P1, cast on 2 sts, K1, P1, K1.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows eleven [B- eleven] times.

Rep 5th and 6th rows once.

Continue without further buttonholes until band is length required to fit along fronts and across Back of neck

Cast off.

To Make Up

With a slightly damp cloth and warm iron, press lightly.

Using a flat seam, sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams.

Sew in sleeves placing seams to side seams.

Sew front band in position.

Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes. Finally, press all seams.
