Two Medium Buttons.

Abbreviations

WB = Work Butterfly by making 3 sts as follows: * insert point of right hand needle under 4 strands formed by dropped sts and knit 1 st, * yo, then rep from * to * once.

Tension

8 stitches to the inch in width, measured over plain smooth fabric (stocking stitch).

The Right Front

Cast on 53 [B-59] stitches.

1st row: * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.

Repeat 1st row five times.

7th row: K1, P1, K1, cast off 2 sts, (P1, K1) fourteen [B-sixteen] times, cast off 2 sts, (P1, K1) nine [B-ten] times.

8th row: (K1, P1) nine [B-ten] times, cast on 2 sts, (K1, P1) fourteen [B-sixteen] times, cast on 2 sts, K1, P1, K1.

Rep. 1st row six times.

Next row: (K1, P1) three times, (K5, inc once in next st) seven times, knit to end of row. (60 [B-66] sts).

Next row: K1, purl to last 18 sts, P2tog tbl, P10, (P1, K1) three times.

Work butterfly border as follows:

** 1st row: (K1, P1) three times, K3, K2tog, (yo) twice, K2tog tbl, knit to end of row.

2nd row: K1, purl to last 14 sts, P2tog tbl, drop yarn overs of previous row (yo) twice, P2tog, P2, (P1, K1) three times.

3rd row: (K1, P1) three times, K1, K2tog, drop yo's of previous row (yo) twice, K2tog tbl, K1, K2tog tbl, knit to end of row.

Cast off 2 [B-4] sts at beg of next row, then dec once at armhole edge in next 3 rows, whilst at same time dec once inside border sts in every 3rd row from previous dec eleven [B.-thirteen] times.

Shape shoulder as follows:

1st row: Cast off 9 [B-10] sts, work to end of row.

2nd row: Work across all sts

3rd row: Cast off 10 [B-11] sts, (P1, K1) three times.

Work 14 rows in moss stitch on these 6 sts Cast off.

The Left Front

Cast on 53 [B-59] stitches.

1st row: * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.

Rep 1st row thirteen times.

Next row: K5 [B-K11] (inc once in next st, K5) seven times, (P1, K1) three times. (60 [B-66] sts).

Next row: (K1, P1) three times, P10, P2tog, purl to last st, K1.

Work butterfly border as follows:

The Back

Cast on 67 [B-75] stitches.

1st row: * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.

Rep. 1st row thirteen times.

Next row: K6 [B-K10], (inc. once in next st, K5) ten times, knit to end of row (77 [B-85] sts).

Next row: K1, purl to last st, K1.

Continue in plain smooth fabric (stocking stitch) until work measures same as Fronts up to armhole shapings, ending with a purl row.

Cast off 2 [B-4] sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec once at each end of needle in every row until 67 [B-71] sts remain.

Continue without shaping until armholes measure same as Front armholes.

Shape shoulders as follows:

1st and 2nd rows: Cast off 9 [B-10] sts, work to end of row.

3rd and 4th rows: cast off 10 [B-11] sts, work to end of row.

Cast off remaining sts

The Sleeves

Cast on 31 [B-35] stitches.

1st row: * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.

Rep 1st row twelve times.

14th row: Inc once in first st, * P1, inc once in next st, rep from * to end of row. (47 [B-53] sts).

Next row: Knit.

Next row: K1, purl to last st, K1.

Continue in plain smooth fabric, inc once at each end of needle in 5th and every following 8th row until there are 55 [B-61] sts on needle.

Continue without shaping until work measures 6 [B-7] ins. from commencement, ending with a purl row.

Cast off 2 [B-3] sts at beg of next 2 rows.

Dec once at each end of needle in next and every alt row until 37 [B-41] sts remain, then in every row until 19 [B-23] sts remain.

Next row: * K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1.

Cast off.

Work another Sleeve in same manner.

To Make Up

With a slightly damp cloth and warm iron, press lightly.

Using a flat seam, sew up shoulder, side and sleeve seams.

Sew in sleeves, placing seams to side seams.

Join ends of front bands and sew in position across back of neck.

Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes. Finally, press all seams.
