Materials
I used approximately 45gm 8 ply (DK) 100% wool in dusty purple @ approx 100mtr/96 yards per 50gm.
Tension
20sts and 28 rows to 4 inches (10cm) over st-st on 4.5mm needles, or needles needed to obtain gauge.
Abbreviations
st-st = stocking st
Inc = increase by working K1, P1 into the same st
M1 = Make one by picking up the bar lying between sts and knitting into the back of it
RPT = Right Purl Twist: Knit into the front of the 2nd st on the left hand needle without slipping the st off the needle, then Purl the 1st st on the left hand needle, dropping both sts off the needle at once.
LPT = Left Purl Twist: Purl into the back of the 2nd st on the left hand needle without slipping the st off the needle, then Knit the 1st st on the left hand needle, dropping both sts off the needle at once.
YO = Yarn Over
Sl1 = Slip One
K2tog = Knit 2 together

Cast on 4sts and place evenly on 4 needles (1st per needle)

2nd round: (P1,K1,P1) into each st. (12sts)
3rd, and every alt round unless stated otherwise: Knit
4th round: *K1, YO, K1, YO, K1, rep from * 3 times more (20sts)
6th round: *K2, YO, K1, YO, K2, rep from * 3 times more (28sts)
8th round: *K3, YO, K1, YO, K3, rep from * 3 times more (36sts)
10th round: *K4, YO, K1, YO, K4, rep from * 3 times more (44sts)
11th round: *Inc, knit to last st on needle, inc, rep from * 3 times more (52sts)
12th round: *Inc, P1, LPT, K5, RPT, P1, Inc, rep from * 3 times more (60sts)
13th round: *Inc, P3, K7, P3, Inc, rep from * 3 times more (68sts)
14th round: *P5, LPT, K3, RPT, P5, rep from * 3 times more (68sts)
