Fun With Fonts!

Windows True Type Fonts are a wonderful source of small motifs for embroidery. There are many ways to use these small symbols.
  1. You could enlarge them in a paint program until you can see the individual pixels and use them for cross stitch or canvas embroidery.
  2. You can also print them on fabric transfer paper and iron them onto your fabric.
Photocopy the printout and trim the motifs you want to use. Place the motif face down on your fabric and wipe the back of the photocopy with turpentine. Take a wooden spoon and rub firmly until the image has been transferred to the fabric. Iron at a setting appropriate to your fabric. If you use pre-washed 100% cotton your transfer should be permanent.

The motifs below have been taken from some of my favourite True Type Fonts.

Alphabet

The following alphabet was given a wild colouring using Kai's Power Tools. Use a paint program to reverse it and print onto fabric transfer paper for a child's alphabet wall hanging or cut and paste letters to form whatever words you desire. But don't forget to reverse the letters first!
