Pocket Book Oven Mitt

Purse shaped oven mitt

This pattern uses American crochet terms. US single crochet = UK double crochet. US double crochet = UK treble and so on

Materials

  • American Thread Company “De Luxe” Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton, article 346 – 3-200 yd. Balls Red or any color desired.
  • “Star” Pearl Cotton, article 90, size 5- 1-50 yd. Ball White.
  • Steel Crochet Hook No. 7/1.65mm.

Pattern

Front

With double strand of Red, ch 82 and work 81 sc on ch, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row: Work 1 sc in each sc, ch 1, turn.

Repeat 2nd row 49 times, break thread.

With double strand of White, ch 81, break thread.

Sew to front section between 12th and 13th rows to indicate top flap.

Button

With double strand of White, ch 3 and work 8 sdc in 1st st of ch (sdc: thread over needle, insert in st, pull through, thread over and work off all loops at one time) join in 1st sdc.

2nd Row: Ch 2, 2 sdc in same space, 2 sdc in each remaining st, join in 1st sdc.

3rd Row: Ch 2, 2 sdc in same space, * 1 sdc in next st, 2 sdc in next st, repeat from * all around, 1 sdc in last st, join in 1st sdc.

4th Row: Same as last row but increase in every 3rd st, break thread.

Sew to center of front section as illustrated.

Back

With double strand of Red, ch 41 and work same as front section, break thread.

Work another section in same manner but do not break thread, ch 1, turn, join to last row of front section by working 1 sc in each sc of front and back sections.

Join other back section to front section in same manner, break thread.

Join double strand of White at sides and with a row of sc crochet both section together around remaining 3 edges.

Ring

With Red, cover a bone ring with sc and attach to mitt as illustrated
