Plaid Potholder

Plaid potholder with shell edging

This pattern uses American crochet terms. US single crochet = UK double crochet. US double crochet = UK treble and so on

Materials

  • American Thread Company “Star” Cotton Yarn, article 65 or “Star” Rug Yarn, article 44: 1 Skein Red. and  Skein White will make 3 potholders.
  • Steel Crochet Hook US No 0/2.25mm

Pattern

With Red, ch 29, sc in 2nd sc from hook, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts of ch,  attach White, (when changing color always complete last half of st with next color) *  working over Red with White, 1 sc in each of the next 2 scs of ch,  working over White with Red, 1 sc in each of the next 4 sts of ch,  repeat from * 3 times, ch 1 to turn each row.

2nd Row: Working over White with Red, 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc,  working over Red with White, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sc, repeat from beginning 3 times, working over White with Red, 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc.

3rd Row: Repeat 2nd row.

4th and 5th Rows: Working over Red with White, sc in each sc.

6th, 7th and 8th Rows: Repeat 2nd row.

9th and 10th Rows: Repeat 4th row.

Next 3 Rows: Repeat 2nd row.

Next 2 Rows: Repeat 4th row.

Repeat the last 5 rows once.

Next 3 Rows: Repeat 2nd row, break yarn.

Edge

Attach White in corner, * ch 2, 2 dc in same space, skip the length of a dc, sc in next st, repeat from * all around,
break yarn.

With White, cover a bone ring with sc and attach to holder as illustrated
