Petticoat Fever Potholders

This pattern uses American crochet terms. US single crochet = UK double crochet. US double crochet = UK treble and so on

Materials

  • J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen or other size 10 pearl/perle cotton, 1 ball each of a light and dark color.
  • Steel Crochet Hook No. 7/1.65mm
  • 2 bone rings.

This amount is sufficient for 2 pot holders.

Pattern

With light color, work sc closely over ring. Join with sl st to 1st sc made.

1st rnd: Ch 3 (to count as 1 dc), dc in front loop of 6 dc,  ch 3, dc in front loop of next 6 dc.  Turn, and working in remaining loop of same sc’s make dc in 6 dc, ch 3, dc in 5 dc.  Join with sl st to top st of 1st ch-3 made.

2nd rnd: Ch 3, (dc in each dc across to ch-3 sp, in ch-3 sp make 2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) twice; dc in remaining dc. Join.

Repeat last row 15 more times. Fasten off.

Attach dark color and repeat 2nd rnd. Fasten off.

Attach light color and repeat 2nd rnd. Fasten off.

Attach dark color and repeat 2nd rnd. Join, ch 1.

Then holding both edges together, work sc through both thicknesses, picking up only the center loops of each stand making 4 sc over ch’s. Fasten off.

Attach light color and work edging as follows;

1st row: * Ch 5, skip 3 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn.

2nd row: * 3 sc in next loop, ch 4, 4 sc in same loop. Fasten off.

Make another pot holder same as this, reversing colors.
