Merry-Go-Round Potholder

Spiral patterned potholder

This pattern uses American crochet terms. US single crochet = UK double crochet. US double crochet = UK treble and so on

Materials

  • J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen or other size 10 pearl/perle cotton, 1 ball each of a light and dark color.
  • Steel Crochet Hook No. 7/1.65mm
  • A bone ring.

This amount is sufficient for 2 pot holders.

Pattern

Starting at center, with dark color, ch 5. Join with sl st.

1st rnd: Ch 1, 12 sc in ring. Do not join rods.

2nd rnd: * Sc in next 2 sc, ch 2. Repeat from * around.

3rd rnd: * Skip 1 sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in ch-2 sp, ch 2. Repeat from * around.

4th rnd: * Skip 1 sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in ch-2 sp, ch 2. Repeat from * around.

5th rnd: Holding light color along top of previous rnd, and working over it to conceal it, * skip 1 sc of next sc group, sc in each remaining sc of group, 2 sc in ch-2 sp, ch 1, drop dark color, draw a loop of light color through (thus completing the ch-2), skip 1 sc of next sc-group, then with light color (working over dark color in order to conceal it), work sc in each remaining sc of group, 2 sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, drop light color, draw through a loop of dark color, thus completing the ch-2. Repeat from* around, always working over unused color.

Repeat the 5th rnd until piece measures 7 inches in diameter. Fasten off.

Make another piece same as this.

PAD – Cut flannel, muslin or any soft material, slightly smaller than crocheted pieces. Place between crochet, tacking to wrong side of one piece.

Place padding between crocheted pieces, and sew edges neatly together.

Sew on ring.
