Leaf Potholder

Leaf shaped potholder

This pattern uses American crochet terms. US single crochet = UK double crochet. US double crochet = UK treble and so on

Materials

  • American Thread Company “Puritan” Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton, article 40: 1-250 yd. Ball Cream
  • “Star” Pearl Cotton, article 90, size 5:  4-50 yd. Balls Green will make the Acorn and Leaf Potholders.
  • Cotton or Kapok for filling.
  • Steel Crochet Hook US No 8/1.15mm or US No 9/1.25mm

Pattern

Chart for working leaf

Starting at A of diagram with Green, ch 21, dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each remaining st of ch, ch 5, turn.

2nd Row: 1 dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in next st of ch (an increase of 1 solid mesh at beginning of row), 1 dc in each dc, break thread.

Starting at B, ch 21, dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each remaining st of ch, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc in each row), turn.

2nd Row: 1 dc in each dc, 1 tr c in same space with last dc,  work 2 more tr c working each tr c into lower loop of previous st (an increase of 1 solid mesh at end of row),  ch 14, join to 1st dc of 2nd row of A,  break thread.

Attach thread in 1st dc of 2nd row at B end of leaf,  ch 3, 1 dc in each of the next 6 dc,  ch 2,  skip 2 dc,  1 dc in each of the next 13 dc,  1 dc in each of the next 6 sts of ch,  ch 2, skip 2 sts of ch,  1 dc in each of the next 6 sts of ch,  1 dc in each remaining dc,  ch 3, turn.

4th Row: 1 dc in each of the next 6 dc,  ch 2, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in each of the next 7 dc,  ch 2,  skip 2 dc,  1 dc in each of the next 10 dc,  ch 2,  skip 2 dc,  1 dc in each of the next 7 dc,  ch 2,  skip 2 dc,  1 dc in each of the next 7 dc,  ch 2, skip 2 dc,  1 dc in each of the next 10 sts,  ch 3, turn and work back and forth according to diagram. Break thread.

With Cream, work another section in same manner working all meshes solid.

With Cream, crochet the 2 sections together with a row of sc.

With Cream cover a bone ring with sc and attach to holder as illustrated.
