Dress Potholder

Potholder in the shape of a vintage dress
This pattern uses American crochet terms. US single crochet = UK double crochet. US double crochet = UK treble and so on

Materials

American Thread Company “De Luxe” Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton, article 346: 1-300 yd. Ball White and
“Star” Pearl Cotton, article 90, size 5: 1-50 yd. Ball Red will make the Dress and Slip.

Steel Crochet Hook No. 7/1.65mm.

Pattern

With White, ch 26, 1 dc in 4th sc from hook, 1 dc in each remaining st of ch, ch 3, turn.

2nd Row: 1 dc in each dc, ch 3, turn (24 d c).

Repeat the 2nd row 6 more times, drop White, turn.

9th Row: Attach Red and work 1 sc in each dc, ch 1, turn.

10th Row: 1 sc in each sc, break Red.

11th Row: Start skirt, pick up White, ch 4, 1 dc in same space, * ch 1, skip 2 sc, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in next sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc (shell) in next sc, repeat from * 3 times, ch 1, skip 2 sc, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in end st, ch 3, turn.

12th Row: 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in center of 1st shell, * ch 1, 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc (shell) in center of next shell, repeat from * across row, ch 3, turn.

Repeat the 12th row 4 times, ch 3, turn.

17th, 18th, 19th and 20th Rows: Same as last row bur working 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in center of each shell.

Next 6 Rows: Work same as last row but having 4 dc, ch 1, 4 dc in center of each shell.

Next 2 Rows: Same as last row but having 5 dc, ch 1, 5 dc in center of each shell, break thread.

Work another section in same manner.

Starting at waist band, with Red, crochet the 2 sections together as follows:

sc in same space, * ch 1, 3 d c in 3 ch loop on side of shell, ch 1, sc between shells, repeat from * down the side to corner, 3 dc in corner, * ch 1, skip 2 dc, sc in next dc, ch 1, 3 dc in center of shell, ch 1, skip 2 dc, sc in next dc, ch 1, sc between shells, ch 2, sc over loops between shells of 27th row, ch 2, sc over loops between shells of 26th row, continue in same manner working an sc over each row with ch 2 between each sc to the waist band, ch 2, turn and work back in same manner, repeat from * across lower edge, then work up opposite side of skirt to correspond

Sew together across top of waist

Armhole

Attach White at top of 2nd row from waist, sc in same space, * ch 1, 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in top of next row, ch 1, sc in top of next row, repeat from * 5 times, break thread.

Attach Red in sc at beginning of previous row, * ch 1, sc in 1sr dc of shell, ch 1, dc in center of shell, ch 1, skip 1 dc of same shell, sc in next dc, ch 1, sc in sc between shells, repeat from * 5 times, break thread.

Work other armhole in same manner.

With Red, cover a bone ring with sc and sew to front of potholder forming a small neck line.
