This pattern uses American crochet terms. US single crochet = UK double crochet. US double crochet = UK treble and so on
Materials
American Thread Company “Star” Cotton Yarn, article 65 or “Star” Rug Yarn, article 44
1 Skein Red.
1 Skein White will make 3 potholders.
Steel Crochet Hook US No 0/2.25mm
Pattern
With White, ch 28, sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each of the next 8 sts of ch, attach Red (when changing color always complete last half of st with next color) and working over White with Red, work 1 sc in each of the next 9 sts of ch, drop Red and with White, work 1 sc in each of the next 9 sts of ch, ch 1 to turn each row.
2nd Row: With White, 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc, working over White with Red, 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc, drop Red, pick up White and work 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc.
Repeat 2nd row 5 times.
8th Row: With White, 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc, working over White with Red, 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc, working over Red with White, 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc.
9th Row: Working over White with Red, 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc, working over Red with White, 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc, drop White, with Red, 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc.
10th Row: With Red, 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc, working over Red with White, 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc, drop White, with Red, 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc.
Repeat 10th row 5 times.
16th Row: With Red, 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc, working over Red with White, 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc, working over White with Red, work 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc.
17th Row: Working over Red with White, 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc, working over White with Red, 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc, drop Red, with White 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc.
Repeat 2nd row 7 times. Break yarn.
Edge
Attach Red in corner, * ch 2, 2 dc in same space, skip the length of a dc, sc in next st, repeat from * all around, break yarn.
With Red cover a bone ring with sc and attach to holder as illustrated.
Embroider White squares with Red, working 4 lazy daisy stitches and 2 straight sts in each square.
