This week on Decor It Yourself Meg shows us how to make removable wall decals. I had no idea that contact paper comes off so easily these days. I remember lining drawers with it in the 80's and you could never get the sticky stuff off. But now you can. Yay :)
Over on the Craft Magazine blog I found a link to this video tutorial on sewing reversible placemats from the Sewing Republic. I would hand stitch the second side of the bias tape so the stitching is invisible but I'm fussy about things like that :)
I watched last Friday's Threadbanger on DIY rain gear and forgot to blog it! Oops. Here it is:
The rain poncho is interesting but even though it rains a lot where I live there's no need for a rain garment that you can wear over a coat. The only time it's cold enough to need a coat is in the middle of the night in the middle of Winter and most people are safely tucked up in bed at that time :)
And I haven't watched it yet but here's this week's Decor It Yourself. It has what looks to be a very interesting project on upholstering dining room chairs.
Make a picnic blanket backpack from old t-shirts. You could also make it out of polar fleece, knit it, crochet it or weave it! I'm thinking of making one out of recycled fashion fabric samples.
This week's episode of Decor It Yourself is all about tidying up your wardrobe. I haven't seen it yet because our net access has been slowed until the 22nd so I'm downloading the Windows media version as I type. It's going to take a while...
My earlier fears about this vodcast (vidcast?) being all about shopping were quickly allayed and it's now making me totally jealous that we had to sell our house (it was in an awful town for raising children).
Decor it yourself is not about making your home a designer home. It's about making your home a great place for you to live. When you rent a house in Australia you can't paint, decorate or even put pictures on the walls, so I'm totally jealous of everyone who gets to decorate and am living vicariously through you all :)
As an artist about to get back into the indie art scene*, this week's topic is one that's very close to me. Enjoy!
* I'm thinking about trying to get a show together and offering up some ATC's once my current craft/writing workload dies down a bit. The workload is pretty heavy at the moment though so I'm not going to give a timeline. There is a big canvas sitting right next to my desk just waiting for me to tidy up the office though! (My office is in the living room. A bit chaotic but work does get done if I can resist the lure of playing Halo 3 and Burnout Revenge on the Xbox :P)
This week's Threadbanger brings you a very cool and easy tutorial for freehand machine embroidery. There's no need to have a fancy embroidery machine, anyone can do this with their regular home sewing machine!
I'm not sure whether I will continue to feature the Decor It Yourself vodcast as it seems to be a lot more about shopping than DIY, I'll see what direction it goes in for the next few episodes...
Because of my thrifty crafting practices, I love the Threadbanger and Decor It Yourself vodcasts, so I'll be presenting new episodes of both shows each week. I hope you like them as much as I do :)
